We teach Danish
language and culture.
For work, for everyday life,
and for socialising.
Working, communicating and socialising in Denmark is not possible over time without a growing knowledge and insight into Danish language and culture. Many expats experience uncertainty about Danish language, values, jokes, traditions, prejudice, and patterns of socialising, both at work, with friends and in the local community.
Tuition is in the greater Copenhagen area - at the workplace, online, in Klog på Dansk's premises, or at your address.
Our focus is the use of Danish language. We train dialogues, based on students’ professional and private needs and activities. And we aim to give students the confidence it takes to go out and use the Danish language in the broad range of situations that are relevant for the individual.
When living in Denmark, it is a must to chat with colleagues over the water cooler and to small talk with the in-laws. The satisfaction and joy of communicating and establishing contact and relationships is essential to all.
At Klog på Dansk, we see language, culture and history as a whole. With both extensive experience in teaching Danish as a second language, and background and experience as a professional historian, we combine language with historical and cultural aspects that all contribute to a better understanding of both the Danes and their language.
Three types of courses:
Language
and speaking
Focus is on the spoken Danish - formal and informal dialogue. Language as your everyday tool, based on your everyday life - at work, at home, and in your community.
Grammar is a tool and a framework we use to help you speak the language. Some stuff is really odd, but we’ll find ways to crack it.
Before we start, we map out:
- Where the individual feels Danish is hardest,
- Where Danish would be most useful and,
- In what contexts Danish holds a perspective for the individual.
We constantly monitor difficulty and the degree of challenge for the individual student, and adjusted accordingly. We work with aim and focus: Learning is only fun when it is serious - and vice versa.
Excursion Seminar:
Culture and History
Excursion Seminars are one-day excursions to get to know key Danish landmarks, nature and culture. Insights and experience provide understanding and raises questions about Denmark’s past and present, and provoke dialogue, both at work and with neighbors and friends. Thus, the seminars are designed for expat staff, and for their colleagues and spouses.
On comfortable bus excursions we enjoy ourselves while we experience and learn about Danish culture and its impact on Danish society and on the way Danes live and behave. In History lies the context and rationale behind the Danes paying 40-50% taxes, enjoying everyday safety, claiming to be among the happiest people in the word and having their bosses working indistinguishably amongst them.
Excursion Seminars are based on historical professionalism. They are exciting and it will be fun, and in the time that follows, there will be stuff to discuss and questions to ask when you meet with colleagues and Danish friends and acquaintances. Also, it will be useful if you consider making the Danish citizenship test.
Klog på Dansk offers three ready made Excursion Seminars, but of course we can also tailor excursions to suit individual needs and interests.
Preparing for the 'Indfødsretsprøve'
This test of knowledge of Danish culture and history can seem overwhelming with its huge amount of facts and details. However, there is no way getting around it to get Danish citizenship.
Klog på Dansk has a long experience with the Indfødsretsprøve and the logic behind it. This insight makes the test less confusing, and the many facts fall into manageable categories.
Tuition can be organised individually, online or in groups at the work place or privately.
Teacher
Christopher Morgenstierne started Klog på Dansk in 2019 with the aim of opening Denmark for expats through knowledge and understanding of the language and the culture.
Since then, Klog på Dansk has provided courses to companies and individuals addressing the individual challenges that each student faces in being comfortable speaking Danish and living in Denmark. Through his twenty years of teaching Danish as a Second Language, Christopher has encountered all kinds of students and gained great insight into how different skills and backgrounds require different focus and learning methods.
With a Master in Danish for Speakers of Other Language and an M.A. in History, Christopher integrates culture and history into his Danish language instruction. And as a presenter of Danish history, he has a great passion for what makes Denmark the country it is today and how it interacts with the life and behaviour of the Danes.
When he is not providing language and culture instruction, Christopher is active in his housing co-operative, on his way to a museum, or onboard his wooden boat sailing the Danish waters.
